Vater Brings Buckcherry Drummer To High School![]() (Pictured left to right: Vater's Bill Morgan and Chad Brandolini, Xavier Muriel, Weymouth High School director of bands, John Duff, and security guard Mahesh Balan.) On Monday October 5th, 2009, Vater Percussion brought Xavier Muriel, drummer for Buckcherry, into Weymouth High School in Weymouth, Massachusetts, as a guest speaker for the school's music students. The platinum selling artist and Grammy nominated drummer was in Boston that day on their US tour opening for KISS. Xavier spoke to the 60 plus music students about his personal background, the history of Buckcherry, life on the road, his influences, what his hopes and dreams were when he was a high school music student back in Austin, Texas. Xavier also took some time to answer questions and to sign autographs. "Xavier Muriel was by far the most compelling guest speaker we've had
at Weymouth High School, in many ways." Said John Duff, Director of
Bands. "His session explained the challenges and successes of his time
in the music industry. He was well spoken, professional, and had a
very positive message for the kids. Xavier showed that he is a real
person with a real life."The Xavier Muriel session at Weymouth High School was in part of Vater's ongoing involvement with the school in memory of Jeffrey Phillips. Phillips was a 1996 graduate of the school and a ten-year employee of Vater Percussion who died earlier this year. For more on Xavier, see this interview on ModernDrummer.com.
