Questlove Helps Bring Music Back to NYC Public Schools
Grammy Award winning artist to DJ at the Music Crossing Borders’ 2nd Annual Take a TourTM Gala on Thursday, May 10th
Questlove, of the Grammy Award–winning hip-hop collective the Roots, will guest DJ at Music Crossing Borders’ second annual Take a Tour gala, a benefit to engage guests in MCB’s mission of providing music education to children in urban and underserved communities. The event will be held on May 10, at 7 p.m., at Studio 450 in Manhattan.
The RSVP-only event is sponsored by Guitar Center and O.N.E. Coconut Water, and will also feature performances by the MCB band, who will be showcasing excerpts of their dynamic world music program for public school children.
Since 2010, Music Crossing Borders, whose slogan is “One Language, One World,” has been cross-pollinating a diverse selection of world music for students in New York City public schools. With the goal of inspiring children to expand their horizons and achieve their academic potential, the Take a Tour program brings the MCB band directly to local schools in economically disadvantaged communities. In a high-energy, interactive experience that introduces a variety of new musical styles, from Afro-Cuban and jazz to blues, Dixieland, and klezmer, the Music Crossing Borders band creates a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere that cuts across cultural and economic divides.
