Jake Garland of Memphis May Fire
Hey, guys! First of all, I really appreciate the opportunity to share a little info about myself with all of you, so thank you!
My name is Jake Garland, I live in Florida, and I play drums for the band Memphis May Fire. I’m twenty-two years old, and I’ve been playing drums for eleven years. I started playing in sixth grade, when I joined the middle-school band class. Immediately music became a huge part of my life.
I played drumset and percussion throughout middle school, and I continued into high school while also marching snare drum for three years. I then went to the University of Central Florida for a year for a bachelor of arts in music degree, also marching snare in the band there—which was one of my favorite memories. A lot of my influence definitely comes from my marching experience, and that has helped my technique on the set.
The first few drummers that really got me into in the rock/metal scene were Alex Rodriquez from Saosin and Aaron Gillespie from Underoath. I couldn’t stop listening to those bands’ albums throughout high school. From the age of nineteen I began touring constantly and playing all over the States and internationally. It’s incredible to sit back and think about how many places I get to see and how many awesome people I get to meet for a living now! Advertisement
I proudly endorse Truth Custom drums, TRX cymbals, Vic Firth sticks, Evans drumheads, and a few other awesome companies. Memphis May Fire will be releasing our new album, Challenger, on June 26, which I’m really pumped about. We’ll also be playing the Warped Tour over the summer. So come check us out if you can! Thanks, everyone.
