Beats, Brews, & Banter with Allison Miller
Philly Drum Project’s monthly event, Beats, Brews, & Banter, will continue on Monday, May 6th at The R Bar (formerly Roosevelt’s Pub) at the corner of 23rd and Walnut in Philadelphia. The event will run from 7-9pm and feature Allison Miller.
NYC-based drummer Allison Miller defies all boundaries bringing her individual sound to diverse types of music. She has been the rhythmic force behind such mainstream artists as Ani DiFranco, Natalie Merchant, and Brandi Carlile, and her jazz skills have been embraced by everyone from avant-garde saxophonist Marty Ehrlich to organ legend Dr. Lonnie Smith. She is also a critically acclaimed bandleader. Her band’s self-titled debut, BOOM TIC BOOM, was voted “Top 10 Jazz Albums of 2010” by the LA Times and she is currently celebrating her sophomore release, No Morphine No Lilies. Allison is a three-time Jazz Ambassador of the US State Department, and was chosen for Downbeat Magazine’s 60th Annual Critics Poll “Top 20 Jazz Drummers.” She is a member of Modern Drummer’s Pro-panel and Yamaha’s “Top 30 Clinicians” list. Since 2004, she has been a member of the Kutztown University Music Faculty. Her lessons and writings have been published in The Huffington Post, Modern Drummer, DRUM, Tom Tom, and Drummer UK. Allison endorses Yamaha drums, Zildjian cymbals, Vic Firth sticks, and Evans drumheads.
