Alan Myers, the drummer with iconic new wave band Devo during the group’s peak period, died this week following a battle with cancer. Myers appeared on Devo’s first six albums, Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!, Duty Now For the Future, Freedom Of Choice, New Traditionalists, Oh, No! It’s Devo, and Shout, which included the hits “Mongoloid,” “Girl U Want,” “Whip It,” “Through Being Cool,” “That’s Good,” and “Pee-a-Boo!” Myers left Devo in the mid-’80s due to disagreements over the band’s reliance on electronic rhythms.
