News: UArts Hosts Second-Annual “Philadelphia International Hand Drumming Day??? on Saturday, April 11
On April 11, 2015, the University of the Arts will host the second edition of the “Philadelphia International Hand Drumming Day.” Organized by Grammy Award–winning percussionist and UArts faculty member and alumnus Arturo Stable, the event will be held in the Gershman Hall at 401 South Broad Street, from 9 am to 9 pm. The twelve-hour day will feature master classes, concerts, panel discussions, and drum circles showcasing a wide range of drumming styles. Classes and concerts range in style, including Cuban, African, and Arabic, and feature master drummers of each genre. The day’s events culminate with a Cuban dance party concert at 7 pm.
Philadelphia International Hand Drumming Day is free to attend and is open to all ages. It will also be streamed live. The link to the stream can be accessed on the festival’s web page, www.uarts.edu/handdrumday.
