Jonathan Joseph of Jeff Beck Band
Hello, fellow drummers! It’s been quite some time since I posted anything here at MD, but I am very pleased to report on my new gig with guitar guru Jeff Beck. Jeff’s music has had a profound effect on my career, and having this opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Vinnie Colaiuta and Narada Michael Walden is both humbling and exciting!
For those of you who may not be familiar with me, I’ve had a very good career playing music with some of the greatest musical minds of our time. During the period between 1990 and 2003, I performed with Joe Zawinul, Pat Matheny, David Sanborn, the Yellowjackets, Ricky Martin, Betty Wright, Joss Stone, Richard Bona, Al Jarreau, Bill Evans, Nestor Torres, Beverly Knight, Mike Stern, and many more.
In 1997, I won my first of two Grammy awards for performing on Randy Brecker’s album Into the Sun. I received my second award, as engineer, on the recording “Oh Happy Day” with my stepdaughter, Joss Stone, in 2009. Advertisement
I look forward to discussing the rest of my story in a future edition of Modern Drummer Magazine. Until then, please check out a few videos:
