Showroom: DW Personalized Snare Drums
Drum Workshop has recently added a new offering to their line of Collector’s Series snare drums, called Exotic Monogram. Each drum is hand-inlayed with laser-cut exotic wood veneers to comprise a “retro shield” design containing two personal initials.
DW executive vice president and drum designer, John Good, explains, “The idea began with our Icon series snare drums. We thought that if we can pay tribute to some of our most recognized artists, why can’t we also do something special for every DW fan? This is going to be the ultimate gift for the upcoming holiday season. It’s a collectible that can be passed down from generation to generation, but it’s also a very playable, high-end snare drum. Just like our Icon drums, it also comes with our deluxe carrying case and a certificate. I’m really proud of this project and we’ve made it happen in record time. From idea to launch, it took us about three months.”
The drum is offered in two distinct themes utilizing exotic African bubinga and figured bird’s-eye maple. Other options include high-gloss lacquer or hand-rubbed satin finish, five drum hardware colors (chrome, satin chrome, nickel, black nickel, and gold) and a variety of popular sizes (5×14, 5.5×14, 6×14, 6.5×14, and 7×14). The Collector’s series drum comes standard with features such as a MAG throw-off system with 3P (3-position) butt-plate, True Tone snare wires, True Pitch stainless steel tension rods, 3.0mm steel True Hoops, and DW heads by Remo. Good adds, “This drum is also a workhorse; it’s very versatile. The 11-ply maple HVLT shell is my favorite at the moment because it has a lot of crack and projection with a ton of body and warmth.”
Retail price for the satin finish is $1539 and the lacquer is $1693.
