Subscribe today at moderndrummer.com/subscribe modern_drummer A Salute to Modern Drummer Festival 2021 The year 2021 is behind us, and 2022 arrives with many hopeful wishes—as well as the second virtual festival in Modern Drummer’s history. We put together the 20th edition of the Modern Drummer Festival— albeit virtually for the first time—on September 12, 2020. Our hope was that 2021 would return to normalcy—at least enough to host the festival in person. The unknowing ups and downs of the pandemic simply did not allow for an in-person event to be scheduled with enough time to manifest it. However, we are hopeful that 2022 will be different. While we wait, there’s quite an event ready for you to enjoy right now from anywhere in the world—Modern Drummer Festival 2021! It is fitting, considering all we went through in 2020 and 2021, that drummers and drumming could use another dose of fresh drumming and infotainment. This year’s Modern Drummer Festival is the answer. As in 2020, we reached out to many of the world’s greatest drummers and asked them to participate in this second edition of the “virtual” festival. The response was incredible, and once again it proves our drumming community is truly a family. We are all bound by our passion for drumming. Also, once again, the reaction from you, our loyal readers and drumming family, was as awe inspiring as the festival itself. The feedback on the 2021 festival has been overwhelmingly positive. I want to thank the Modern Drummer crew (please look to the right of this column, as they’re all listed in the masthead) who worked day and night to produce the festival. Our producer—the visionary Thom Mozloom from M Network—and his team spent a lot of hours in the edit bay making sure the festival was compelling and interesting—especially as the “live” environment of previous festivals was being replaced with people watching at home or on mobile devices. It was no small feat, but we all did it! I also want to give salutes to Editor at Large Billy Amendola and MD Managing Director Dave Hakim (who both helped with talent acquisition and planning), MD’s Jason Mehler and Ricardo Rodriguez, Director of Photography Steve Weiss, Production Designers Gary Swing and Jason Absher, Audio Mixing (Master) Carlos “Loco” Bedoya, Video Producer/Editor Jay Oliver, and publicists Lisa Mozloom and Lauren Rigau. The Modern Drummer Festival is online, on-demand, and available anytime to view as many times as you would like. We hope that you enjoy this issue of Modern Drummer, the “All-Things-Festival-2021” edition—our program of sorts for your drumming enjoyment. Thank you for always being there for us and with us. YOU are what make Modern Drummer a family. Inspired! David Frangioni CEO/PublisherTHIS IS FOR PERFORMERS !
